I don't think history is required to compare which is the best watch, as the article I linked showed. It doesn't require 30 years to tell that the Seamaster has a dial which is easier to read, due to it's larger (and more luminous) markings, or that it's case does not have the sharp edges which the Submariner does. I agree, the Submariner might be made of better quality metal, but, as the article showed, it has sharp edges, and the clasp is simply 'adequate', where the Seamaster clasp is better engineered (also, the divers extension is much easier to deploy than on the Submariner) I agree, that model of Seamaster was never a James Bond watch, but, that was never an issue for why I wanted one, I simply wanted a replacement for my Submariner. The fact that the Planet Ocean is a James Bond watch, is just an added bonus [/quote]
Hello, 006,
The advantages, you and maybe your article are mentioning are good points, and in those details, the Omega Seamaster may be better than the Submariner. In fact, every Swatch Scuba will beat the Sub on these points, but is that enough to strike out the Sub?
Regardless of the materials, I would like to tell you, what I like more on my Sea-Dweller against the Omega Seamaster:
- Timeless design of the body, dial and
bracelet.
- Silent rotor motion,
- much more advanced and nicer decorated
movement,
- more discrete appeal of the dial (I am a
licenced diver, am usually wearing glasses but
never had trouble to read the Rolex under
water or at night),
- the bezel does not get so easily scratched,
- the coating of the glass does not get
scratches as there is none on the Rolex),
Plus the most important:
The bracelet is durable!!!! I'd rather have the Rolex without the Omega improvements for 20 years on my wrist instead of loosing the in details better Omega with a high possibility when being under water or on a boat deck.
I mean, what is the use of a nicer machined buckle, when you have lost the entire watch as the bracelet is not durable?
As I am informed, the mentioned Omega Seamaster Diver is discontinued and it will be longly forgotten, when the Rolex is still on the Market.
And, did I mention the market value of a used SUB? You may see a huge difference here, next year or in 30 years, and that's what I have been talking about.

What is the going price for an Omega seamaster 300mm, not the planet ocean that is shown here, but the other one that has been used for a couple of bond movies now

Wow, they make it in 300mm now. And I thought the PO was a bit big

My Omega Bond Seamaster, "on loan"
If you're looking for the chronometer worn by Pierce Brosnan in his last three James Bond 007 films, that's the Omega 2531.80 Seamaster. A quick Internet Search will give you a good idea of the street price you can expect to pay for this watch, new, from an Authorized Dealer.
That is interesting. Why does it show up on the Omegawatches.com as 2220.80.00?
I own the watch no.3735 from the 5007 pieces and I have also the mentioned booklet. I am really proud about my watch and I will wear it for swimming and diving. I am a fan of 007 but I am also a fan of top range quality watches, so I bought my Seamaster Planet Ocean LE for both reasons.
You are right about the "2006" number but I didn't had any choice because my watch was the only one available in Cyprus (small market).
About the first time posting mentioned by you, I have to admit that I am not too much a "forums' talker" but the subject of this dicussion made me to register and post.
I agree with Dell comment:"But-- when you actually put this watch on your wrist to wear, what I've found is that the design and fit of the rubber strap is absolutely incredible. ..."
because this was one of the reasons of getting the final decision of buying it. Who likes the medium size watches can chouse the other Seamaster LE with metallic bracelet.
If you keep in mind that I have also a Breitling Avenger and a Breitling Navitimer Datora, you can understand that Seamaster dimension was exactly what I was looking for.
please take some more time to check the Omega Webpage.
There are several variations of the Seamaster, if you press the little "next" button beneath the case/dial/bracelet options, you get them all.
and that's why the references are different: different dial = different number.
Dells webpage is correct.

I think it's interesting that the Planet Ocean's shown on the Omega website have orange/red numerals, but the collectors edition (and the one worn by Daniel) have grey/white numerals.
And there are also "civil" non-limited versions for the Planet Ocean, which have the black dial with the white numbers, like Daniel Craig wears in Casino Royale.
thanks for the update. If the crystal is really coated at the outside, we will see similar problems like with the famous EBEL crystals in the 90s. The cloth is not so much the thing, which harms the coating, it is the normal wear. If you have ever worn a watch with a normal crystal or a plastic crystal, you know, how easy they get scratched. This does not happen with the sapphire, but the coating at the outside also gets scratched, and you can see that!
Additionally, if using the microfibre OR the Selvyt cloth: If there is any particle of dirt or dust in the cloth, that will also do harm to the coating.
So, I strongly recommend using water to clean the crystal before you are using a CLEAN polishing cloth. I am keeping my polishing cloth for that reason in a plastic bag.

That link works for me anyway.

I meant 300m
That is interesting. Why does it show up on the Omegawatches.com as 2220.80.00?
Is the original Brosnan Seamaster no longer being produced by Omega? Is it now just the new one with Co-Axial Escapement?
/me is turning green.

That doesn't sound to me, that "just that I found it interesting that there was that amount of variety in the models of Planet Ocean".
Anyhow....
